International Symposium on Impact Engineering opens at NCKU (National Cheng Kung University)-wn
The 9th International Symposium on Impact Engineering (ISIE 2016) kicked off today at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, where over 20 scholars and experts from the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Poland and countries in Southeastern Asia gathered to explore up-to-date research findings in the field of impact engineering.
The 5-day conference taking place from September 5 to 9 is jointly organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at NCKU and the Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineers.
NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su attended the opening ceremony on the morning of September 6 and welcomed all the guests saying, the university is looking forward to providing more collaborative efforts in the research of impact engineering and more opportunities will open through the conference.
NCKU Dean of Engineering Woei-Shyan Lee said, this is the first time that the ISIE conference has been held in Tainan, and we are honored to host the event and delighted to have the opportunity to welcome our colleagues from all around the world.
He also said, the ISIE is a well-known international symposium in the field of impact engineering.
ISIE 2016 is the 9th event in the series and the focus is on the latest developments in the experimental, theoretical and computational aspects of the dynamic impact response of materials and structures, according to Lee.
The primary objective of the ISIE series is to provide a forum for the presentation of recent progress in Impact Engineering and its related fields, both in terms of fundamental research and industrial applications.
After the opening ceremony, the first session titled Dynamic Deformation and Constitutive Relations was held.
Four keynote speakers were invited to deliver speeches including Prof. Fabrice Pierron, Chair of Solid Mechanics Faculty of Engineering and the Environment in University of Southampton, UK, Prof. Jenn-Terng Gau from Northern Illinois University, USA, Prof. Hidetosh Kobayashi from Osaka University, Japan, and Prof. Leopold Kruszka from Military University of Technology, Warsaw, Poland.
