The 13th International Indonesia Forum this year was originally planned to be held at the Catholic University of Saint Thomas in Medan, Indonesia. Although the COVID-19 pandemic made this impossible, Taiwan's effective response enabled a smaller physical conference to be held at National Cheng Kung University. After consultation with Prof. Dr. Yuh-Neu Chen, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, National Cheng Kung University, and Prof. Dr. Wen-Sung Chen, Department of History, National Cheng Kung University, Dr. Frank Dhont decided to once again call upon the support of National Cheng Kung University. The 2020 conference program and pictures are available online at https://iif.or.id/

The International Indonesia Forum (IIF) was founded by Frank Dhont. This year's conference marks the second time that NCKU has taken part in the IIF conference, an event held annually by the International Indonesia Forum (founded and chaired by Dr. Frank Dhont) and Indonesian partners. Last year, NCKU acted as the local host for the very first IIF conference held outside Indonesia. For further detail, see https://iif.or.id/12th-international-indonesia-forum-june-26-27-2019/

The opening ceremony was also enlivened by Tari Puspanjali, a welcome dance from the island of Bali, which was performed by dancer-cum-choreographer Koming Somawati and her daughters Mahea and Maile. This dance, the name of which is derived from puspa ('blossom') and anjali ('reverent salutation'), is traditionally performed during temple festivals or to honor important guests.
